Salem Economic Development Committee advances land banking and rail depot projects

misc · Meeting of August 4, 2026

NY SALEM — Salem Economic Development Committee advances land transfers and grant pursuit. The committee moved forward with a land banking initiative to transfer five properties (three in Salem, two in Whitehall) to the Washington County Land Holding Company, scheduled for Finance Committee and Board of Supervisors review in August. The committee also received a Quit Claim deed from Canadian Pacific transferring the Salem Depot to NE Rail, with town attorney Matt Fuller handling the filing.

Separately, the committee is pursuing $927,000 in grant funding for four infrastructure projects: a salt shed, brinemaker equipment, pedestrian connections, and the Master Comprehensive Plan.
