Salem Planning Board approves storage buildings, advances battery storage ban

NY SALEM — Salem Planning Board unanimously approves two storage applications and battery storage ban. The Board approved site plan applications from Rebecca Dennison for two prefabricated sheds and Derick Justin for a 20-by-30-foot storage building on Rexleigh Road. The Board also unanimously approved placement of 2-by-4-foot veteran banners on telephone poles, with annual installation before Memorial Day and removal after Veterans Day; banners in the historic district require Historic Commission approval.
In a work session, the Board unanimously approved forwarding a proposed local law banning large-scale battery storage systems to the Town Board and requested a six-month extension of the existing moratorium, citing fire risk and environmental contamination concerns.
